Insurance Companies Appeal Asbestos Case
Aviva (Norwich Union) and Zurich Insurance are to appeal
a High Court decision upholding the awarding of
compensation for pleural plaques.
Budget Relief for First Time Buyers
The 2005 Budget brought a little relief for first time
buyers, as the Chancellor doubled the Stamp Duty
threshold, increasing the figure at which it becomes
payable to £120,000.

Corporate Manslaughter Bill
Consultations are now closed on the draft Corporate
Manslaughter Bill. Its purpose is to allow the
prosecution of companies whose activities cause death if
it can be shown that senior management could have
prevented the offence.

Amongst the 50 new bills in the 2005 Queen's speech, is
the NHS Redress Bill. This is designed to offer a
"quick and appropriate" response for low value clinical
negligence claims. In practice, all claims less
than £20,000.
