Compensation Payments For Discrimination Claims Increase

From 11 September 2017 claimants who are successful in their claim for unlawful discrimination can expect to recover a higher compensatory award for injury to their feelings.

The purpose of the injury to feelings award is to compensate the individual for any distress caused by the act(s) of discrimination. An individual can also claim for loss of earnings, pensions etc.

The amount awarded depends on the severity, length and repetition of the acts complained of. Following a period of consultation the Presidents of the Tribunals in England and Scotland have agreed higher rates for compensation in line with inflation.

The table below shows the new compensation rates:
