A man left disabled after a near-fatal collision has been awarded several million pounds in damages by the High Court.
Afghanistan born Nazer Ahadi was just 22 years old when he suffered brain injuries after a collision. Mr Ahadi was on his way to work when a driver travelling in the opposite direction tried to overtake a lorry and smashed head on into his vehicle.
Mr Ahadi was taken to hospital where he was treated for brain damage, which, it was originally thought, could prevent him from ever walking again.
The Judge awarded Mr Ahadi a lump sum of £2.3 including almost £200,000 for "pain, suffering and loss of amenity", plus £145,000 – index-linked to inflation and tax free – every year for the rest of his life.
"I am satisfied that the proposed terms represent a fair and fortunate compromise that is in his best interests and, accordingly, I have no hesitation in approving the proposed settlement," the Judge added.
The majority of the compensation will be used to fund Mr Ahadi’s extensive 24-hour care needs and future medical treatment.
"Prior to his accident, Nazer was a bright and determined young man, who had the whole of his life ahead of him," said Mr Ahadi’s solicitor. "The life-threatening injuries which he sustained in this tragic accident were caused through no fault of his own and have had a devastating impact."
