Lasting Powers of Attorney

What is a Lasting Power of Attorney?
An LPA gives whoever you feel is suitable the power to act as you would in dealing with your affairs. It can cover not only your financial affairs but also decisions that may need to be made about your personal welfare (i.e. medical treatment, care and so on).

The power runs parallel to your own right to deal with your assets and to make decisions for yourself. It will generally only be used at the point when you are physically or mentally unable of looking after your own affairs. Appointing an LPA amounts to sensible planning.

What is the benefit of having an LPA?
You give someone who you know and trust your express authority to deal with your affairs as and when you are unable to do this properly yourself. You make the appointment ahead of needing it so your Attorney will have immediate power to look after your affairs on your behalf when the need arises.

What if I do not have an LPA and need help in the future?
If you do not have an LPA in place and you become unable to deal with your own affairs the process of appointing someone to take your place (Deputyship) can be cumbersome and costly.

There will be a long period where no one is officially appointed to assist you and during which anyone trying to on your behalf will be doing so without the appropriate authority. The disruption could create difficulty and distress for you and your family.

Appointing an LPA is much less expensive than the alternative and gives you and your family peace of mind for the future.

Our experienced team will be pleased to talk through this option with you and answer any questions. We can meet you at any of our offices or, if it is more convenient for you, elsewhere, for example at your home.

I would very much like to thank you so very much for all your support and care.
