For over 30 years The Legal 500 has been annually analysing the capabilities of law firms across the world - assessing their strengths in over 150 jurisdictions and producing rankings based upon research using feedback from 300,000 clients worldwide, submissions from law firms and interviews with leading private practice lawyers.

In The Legal 500 UK 2021 Fosters was listed in 15 practice categories, including three for the first time, and has had a number of lawyers highlighted for special mention.

The Legal 500 2019

Commenting on The Legal 500 UK 2021, Fosters' Chief Executive Chris Brown said: "It is good to know that, even during the difficult year every business has experienced, our commitment to growth and improvement of services is recognised once again by The Legal 500. In The Legal 500 UK for 2021, Fosters and its lawyers have been recognised in the following areas:

Corporate and Commercial

'Fosters make themselves readily available around the clock, and always manage to come through even when their workload is high and they are busy with other things, particularly when we need support urgently.'

Head of Fosters' Business and Commercial department Jamie Arnall is recognised as a 'Next Generation Partner' and is commended for his 'attention to detail and 'speed of response.'

Fosters are noted for having built a strong following for its outsourced in-house lawyer model, known as 'In House', based around the experience of Jamie, whose previous roles include a stint as head of legal for a Premier League football club and senior legal counsel for a FTSE 250 business.

Crime: Fraud

Fosters are ranked as a Top Tier firm in East Anglia, with department head Chris Brown listed as a Leading Individual.

Our crime and business defence practice are noted for frequently being involved in high-profile cases. Practice head Chris Brown and Higher Court Advocate Damien Moore often appear before the Crown Courts in fraud and regulatory matters, and they act on behalf of professional bodies, notably in the healthcare, banking and sporting sectors.

We are listed as a Top Tier firm in the region, with both Chris Brown and Damien Moore registered as Leading Individuals in this area.

We are recognised for handling a broad range of litigation work for companies and individuals in Norfolk, and partner Chris Fielding having extensive experience in County Court and High Court matters. We join this year's ranking, where debt recovery is handled by head of litigation Chris Fielding. The firm acts for both commercial businesses and individuals in pre-issue recovery, claims and the enforcement of judgments.

Fosters are noted for having a strong local reputation around Norwich, as well as also providing services through its Lowestoft and Wymondham offices. Property Litigation

Fosters has a long-established property litigation practice that acts for commercial and residential landlords throughout the region. Its landlord and tenant work includes possession claims, service charge disputes and forfeiture claims. The practice, which is led by head of litigation Chris Fielding, has a close working relationship with the Eastern Landlords Association.

Intellectual Property

Through its In House service, Fosters increasingly handles IP matters, including advice on global trade mark and brand strategy. The service, led by partner Jamie Arnall, provides an outsourced in-house legal capability and solicitor Charlotte Darkins is developing a niche IP specialism, advising on trade mark portfolio reviews, portfolio management and the transfer of IP rights. Fosters joins the ranking this year having built on the experience of partner Jamie Arnall, who was previously head of legal at a prominent English football club, to develop the firm's 'In House' service. This provides legal support on a retainer basis and has proven popular with clients in the sports industry. The team has worked with Premier League and Championship football club clients, national sports governing bodies, top division sports leagues, sponsors, sports event management consultants and other industry stakeholders.

Lexcel

Lexcel is a nationally accredited award of excellence in legal practice awarded by The Law Society to firms who meet a very exacting criteria and can demonstrate exceptional client care, support and development of their staff and the effective management of risk throughout the organisation.

Fosters' first audit took place in February 2014 and we are proud to continue to be Lexcel accredited. As part of the annual process an auditor meets with a number of staff across all branches, undertakes a review of both opened and closed files, reviews our central working documents and our approach to client care.

Customer Service Excellence Quality Mark

CSE

In 2020 Fosters were delighted to be awarded the national Customer Service Excellence Quality Mark for the first time. The Cabinet Office endorsed accreditation seeks to reward organisations that have a truly customer-focused commitment, while providing a positive steer for customer-centred change.

Certification required the firm to be successfully assessed against five criteria, highlighting how they focus on the individual needs and preferences of their service users. The criteria headings are customer insight, the culture of the organisation, information and access, delivery and timeliness and quality of service.

Carer Friendly Tick Award - Employers


In May 2020 Fosters became the first Norfolk company to have received the 'Carer Friendly Tick Award - Employer' in recognition of their support for colleagues who are family carers.

The award is given by Caring Together, a network partner of Carers Trust, who provide services and support for carers and their families across the eastern counties, including Norfolk. It aims to encourage and highlight businesses with good practices to support their staff who are balancing both a career and caring responsibilities.

The Law Society Awards 2019 Excellence in Business Winner

The Legal 500

In 2019 Fosters Solicitors was awarded the top prize at the Law Society's Excellence Awards - the highest accolade for law firms in England and Wales.

The firm was announced as the winner of Excellence in Business Development category and was the only firm in East Anglia to achieve success at the event.

To have been nominated in two categories was an achievement in itself, but it is particularly pleasing for us to win an award that praises our client-focussed service as the reason for our success."
