Fosters Solicitors is proud to announce their chosen charity of the year: Star Throwers. The charity was founded in 2009 by oncologist Dr Henry Mannings, who was frustrated with the limited care he could give patients, in hospital and as a GP, and also with the general ineffectiveness of standard treatments. It is a charity dedicated to providing advice and support as well as holistic treatments to cancer sufferers, their families and carers in a warm, non-clinical/hospital environment.
The name "Star Throwers" comes from the parable about a boy throwing starfish back into the sea after bad storm. He is approached by a man who says "there are too many of them, it won't make any difference", to which the boy replies "it made a difference to that one". This is the message Star Throwers stand for: that help, even if you are only able to give it to one person, is always worth giving.
The Star Throwers centre in Wymondham is designed to make patients and visitors feel at home; with a large bright lounge for relaxing in either before or after treatments; a further room where a weekly knitting circle is held; warm and tranquil treatment rooms; and beyond the large kitchen there is a landscaped garden area with decking for the enjoyment of patients and carers.
Henry Manning's research is focused on non-toxic cancer treatments and he offers consultations for patients looking to understand their cancer and alternative treatment options including, where appropriate, clinical trials at phase II and upwards. As well as these treatments, patients and their carers have free access to wellbeing therapies such as massage, hypnotherapy, yoga and Reiki - all designed to treat the cancer by stimulating an immune response. In addition a specialist nutritionist is on hand to advise.
All of the services are free but this is only possible because of generous donations and fundraising. Star Throwers receives no government funding. To support this exceptional charity, Fosters will be raising as much as they can through various internal and external activities throughout 2018. Fosters has chosen Star Throwers because the charity has helped some of our staff and so the company has seen the incredible work done by the centre first hand.
