APIL Injury Prevention Week 2022

As an APIL accredited personal injury practice we are proud to support APIL with their annual Injury Prevention Week.

The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) is a not-for-profit campaign organisation, who are dedicated alongside their member lawyers to improving the services provided for victims of personal injury, and protecting and enhancing their access to justice.

The focus of their 2022 campaign is the use of e-scooters, and the risks they present. E-scooters became the chosen mode of transport for thousands of people in 2020 when rental schemes and trials were set up around the UK. At present only rental e-scooters can be ridden legally.

In 2021, national statistics reported that there were 390 people who were seriously injured, 960 who were slightly injured, and nine deaths from collisions involving e-scooters. With the government planning to legalise the use of privately owned e-scooters, it is anticipated this will lead to an increase in users and therefore an increase in incidents and injuries.

APIL are using Injury Prevention Week to highlight the legislative, and practical, measures which would help to protect road and pavement users, and hopefully reduce the number of incidents involving e-scooters.
