Fosters sponsor UEA Mock Trial Competition

Throughout this academic year Fosters Solicitors have been proud sponsors of the UEA Law Society’s inaugural Mock Trial competition.

The competition has seen law students present cases and question witnesses in civil and criminal scenarios – helping to develop their advocacy skills, as well as their legal analysis.

Fosters’ Partner and Training Principal, Chris Fielding, and Litigation Executive, Carl Rix, judged both semi-finals and were highly impressed by the standard of competition. The competitors were given a scenario based around a tricky landlord and tenant dispute and found themselves presenting legal submissions on what in fact were real issues, as well as questioning actors playing the role of witnesses.

Commenting afterwards, Chris said: “I was highly impressed with the standard and level of engagement by all the semi-finalists. Despite the issues virtual advocacy poses, all managed to overcome the inevitable hurdles and present some very persuasive cases – at times it felt surprisingly true to life. I am very much looking forward to watching the final, when remaining competitors will face the additional challenge of winning over a jury.”

Everyone at Fosters would like to wish all the students the very best for the final!
