NCFC Community Hero: Norwich City v Aston Villa

A young fundraiser, who pushed himself to run 100K in just one month, is our Community Hero for the Aston Villa match.

Every month, the club and Fosters highlight a deserving community minded individual as our Community Hero. The honour this month goes to young Freddie Dawson from Norwich.

Freddie, aged 7, was nominated for the prize after his fundraising efforts last month raised over £2,500 for both the club’s Community Sports Foundation and the Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital Fund.

To complete the gruelling challenge, which he did in 28 days, the young Canaries fan ran 3km every weekday after school, combined with 5km every Saturday and Sunday.

For his final run on the 28th November, his family arranged a welcoming party at Thorpe St. Andrew recreation ground, complete with raffle, tombola and cake sale. Friends, family and members of the public helped Freddie celebrate crossing the line.

Freddie chose to run for the Community Sports Foundation because of the work the charity has done with his aunt, Hope. Hope, who is disabled, has enjoyed inclusive football, swimming and dance sessions through the Foundation.

“Freddie loves watching my sister take part in these activities – all things she would not have been able to do, were it not for the Foundation’s support,” said his mother, Natalie.

“He chose the Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital at NNUH because we have had two family friends that have gone through cancer treatments, and he knows that the hospital really helped them overcome their illnesses.”

She continued: “I’m really proud of Freddie, for what was an epic challenge. He never moaned about the cold, dark and wet evenings, of which there were many! For some runs, he was supported by friends and family but for a lot of them it was just him.

“He just wanted to do it to help people – he loved that he could do something he enjoyed and help two causes close to his heart at the same time.”
