Community and Event News: November 2023

Throughout the year, Fosters Solicitors hosts and attends a variety of events in association with our business and community partners, as well as undertaking activities to support the well-being of our colleagues and our wider local community network.

Here is a selection of events and activities our colleagues took part in across November 2023.

Congratulations Andrea!

The month kicked off with us celebrating the 30th anniversary of our popular Practice Director, Andrea Spooner joining the firm. Andrea originally joined Fosters as a secretary, before forging her way to becoming now both a Partner and Board Director. Congratulations Andrea!

Safe Suffolk Renters

Our colleagues Will Hoy and Tyler Clayton were delighted to join our partners, the Eastern Landlords Association, at the Engaging for a Better Future event organised by Safe Suffolk Renters at the University of Suffolk in Ipswich.

They joined other industry professionals at this bespoke event to provide practical guidance and information on changes to legislation and general legal issues affecting the private sector landlords in attendance. Tyler from our Litigation & Dispute Resolution team provided a great insight into the sector and answered attendee questions.

Veteran Lioness named Community Hero

In association with our partners, Norwich City Football Club, our Fosters Solicitors Community Hero for the Canaries’ fixture against Blackburn Rovers was Mary ‘Rusty’ Blake.

As part of the club’s annual remembrance commemorations, Rusty was recognised for serving with the Women’s Royal Army Corps from 1970 to December 1974 in Aldershot and Hong Kong, attached to the Royal Corp of Signals. Before joining the army at the age of 16, Rusty was selected to play football for England, the unofficial 1969 Lionesses team.

Canaries' Player Kit Sponsors Dinner

At Carrow Road, our Partners Andrea Spooner and David Gabell attended the Norwich City Football Club Player Kit Sponsors Dinner, joining our sponsored player Jack Stacey, his teammates and our fellow club partners – as well as hearing from former Canaries, Grant Holt and Jeremy Goss.
As always, it was great to see so many familiar faces, meet new ones – and thank you to the club’s partnerships team!

Inspirational Women in Law Awards 2023

Congratulations to our Deputy Head of Wills, Trusts & Probate, Paige Gouldthorpe, who was nominated for Champion of the Year at this year’s awards. Paige attended the awards ceremony held in London.

Business community supports charity event

Our Commercial Director, Will Hoy, joined over 300 people in support of the Community Sports Foundation at their Business Leaders Dinner at Carrow Road.

Norfolk and Norwich Junior Lawyers Division

Three of our trainee solicitors, Serena Djiakouris, Taylor Walding and Tyler Clayton, who are all active members of the Norfolk and Norwich Junior Lawyers Division’s committee, helped organise the organisation’s charity quiz night in aid of Norfolk and Waveney Mind, which was held at The Refectory at Norwich Cathedral.

Learning about the changing digital landscape

Members of our Business & Commercial team joined our fellow Norwich City FC Primary Partners, 3B Data Security, at their networking event, which also incorporated tips and advice on cyber security best practice and how to keep organisations secure.

Norfolk nurse nominated as NCFC Community Hero

Our second Fosters Solicitors Community Hero of the month was Kate Stanton from the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, chosen by local charity, Amber’s Army.

Kate was present during a big part of former Canaries’ Fan of the Season, Amber Sheehy’s cancer journey. Amber sadly lost her battle in 2022 at age eight, but her memory lives on through the Amber’s Army charity, set up by her parents, Amanda and Jon Sheehy.

The pair describe the Paediatric Oncology Nurse Specialist as “a good person and the most consistent nurse through Amber’s journey.

Fosters lose top Boccia spot!

Colleagues from our Personal Injury team joined our friends from Headway Norfolk and Waveney for their annual boccia tournament.

We have supported the event for a number of years now, as it’s such great fun, and an opportunity to meet some of those involved and supported by the brain injury charity. We’re also pleased to say we lost our position as reigning champions to very worthy winners! Thanks again to all the team at Headway Norfolk and Waveney!

Wynterfest 2023

We again opened our Wymondham branch doors for the town’s annual Christmas event, Wynterfest.

As well as offering visitors mulled wine and chocolate, we had a 100-prize tombola and hamper raffle, which raised an amazing £535 for our charity of the year, Norfolk & Waveney Mind.

Thank you to all our volunteers and everyone who came along to see us!
