Fundraising Canary Fan is Community Hero

The Fosters Solicitors Community Hero for Norwich City’s fixture against Leeds United is Nathan West, nominated by the club.

‘Westy’ was discovered by Canary fans after a video of him being interviewed before a match at Carrow Road went viral following a handful of negative comments on social media.Norwich fans, in particular co-host of Talk Norwich City, Chris Reeve, were quick to squash the hurtful comments and found that the keen Norwich fan was currently fundraising for an upcoming half-marathon.
Within 24 hours of his Just Giving page link being posted, he had raised over £23,000 of his initial target of £500.

After a month of support from football fans around the world and shoutouts on Soccer Saturday, the target has now reached over £60,000; 12,000% of his initial target.

Nathan’s chosen charity is Macmillan Cancer Support, who stood out to him after losing his Grandad and Nanny to cancer.

He said: “Any time in your life cancer could affect you or a family member or friend and Macmillan Cancer Support will be just a phone call away from you.

Our Community Hero has been a fan of Norwich City since the age of nine, and said about his love for the club: “It means the world to me; you get a real sense of belonging, especially when the players and manger walk around the whole pitch after the game, getting the supporters involved and celebrate with us the fans.

Nathan has been so grateful for the support shown by the community, saying: “Thank you to all the Norwich supporters who had my back after the bad messages about me from the video and thank you to everyone that has donated.

My fellow Norwich City supporters and the whole of the footballing community had my back and the messages of support I had from football fans from all over the world was so heart-warming and it shows the internet trolls will never win.

We have got some of the best supporters in the world and I know they be there again to help me or someone else in need.”

Since 2019, Fosters Solicitors have joined our primary partners Norwich City Football Club in highlighting the great work of local individuals and organisations in our community. Every month during the football season, a ‘Community Hero’ is chosen for a selected matchday – providing an opportunity to showcase that person(s), or initiatives, selfless work or important community campaign.

Do you know someone who deserves special recognition, or does something wonderful for their local community? If so, we’d love to hear your nomination for a future game, which can be put forward via the club’s website.
